Hope you all are enjoying the beautiful weather we’ve been experiencing – it’s fantastic! Can’t believe we only have one month left in this playing season – this year has gone by so quickly!
Next week we will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo. Join us as we Cha, Cha, Cha around the course earning points as we go. It’s the last day for the Ringers Tournament and to earn points toward league awards. When we get back to the Clubhouse, the kitchen will be featuring margaritas and Mexican food specials – you won’t want to miss it!
On May 11, we begin our 2-day Club Championship Tournament. The tournament continues on May 18, with May 25, being a rain date for the tournament and our end-of-the year luncheon. Sign-up for both the tournament and luncheon in the Ladies Lounge. If we don’t need the rain date, we’ll have our 2nd Annual Goofy Golf Pony Day before the luncheon.
Your elected board of the LGA, Wanda, Brenda, Vivian and Bonnie are the hosts for our upcoming Club Championship tournament and end of the year luncheon. Per you request from our opinion poll done at last year’s luncheon, we are making just a couple of changes in this year’s tournament.
It will be a two day function, therefore not using a Thursday. The majority of you asked to stop 3 day tournaments and not to do tournaments on Thursdays. We have tried to accommodate most of the suggestions from last year. We have pleased some of you and not pleased others………….BUT we cannot be faulted for not trying.
The tournament will be:
Tuesday, May 11th, Tuesday, May 18th with Tuesday May 25th as a raindate and the date of our luncheon.
Menu for the luncheon:
- Mixed green salad topped with choice of popcorn shrimp or grilled chicken
- Sourdough rolls
- Rainbow sherbet with sugar cookie
- Cost will be $12 to include tax and gratuity
- Water will be provided and if you desire tea it will be available at an extra charge.
Sign up sheets for golf and luncheon are posted in the lounge. Make certain you sign up for both………one does not assume the other.
Our season is rapidly coming top an end. We only have 2 weeks of regular play before our Club Championship Tournament. The election of officers for next year will be held on May 11 before the tournament play begins. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend.
Next week our game is Par 3′s and 5′s Only, with 1/2 handicap. The following week we will have our Cinco de Mayo Cha, Cha, Cha – a day early on May 4! (Margaritas, anyone?) Hope you’ll join us for these last 2 opportunities to earn points (=$) and for Ringers scores.
Another Queens of the Bayou Invitational is over and once again “a good time was had by all!” Thanks again to Rosemary & Diane and their entire team for a well done event!!
Congratulations to Sandy Miller for her Hole-in-One on #4! It was her 3rd! And thanks to Stanley Bruce Powell and Bill Osthoff for the $500 prize!

Ladies -
I have had a few questions regarding how “points” are awarded after our weekly games. You are awarded points according to how you finished within your flight on each non-tournament play date. These points are accumulated all season and are the basis for the money you receive at the end of the season. The funds are paid out in ProShop gift certificates. The dollar value of each point will be determined by the total number of points earned throughout the year. Below is the schedule of points awarded. Hope this answers your questions.

Here are the results of the Memorial Tournament (otherwise known as THE Deep Freeze!). I believe a good time was had by all…after we had time to thaw out! Thanks to all participants and congratulations to all winners. I’m still counting our contributions to the Cure, but it looks like we collected over $1,100 for the Cause! Thanks, Ladies! (and a few Gentlemen) $180 was collected for the RBCC Scholarship Fund and $400 was collected for Crystal Taylor, our server who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer. You all have generous hearts, give yourselves a pat on the back.

February 2nd begins our second half of ringers for the year. Judy Boykin has been busy getting 1st half results completed and ready to go again. Reminder to all who are playing in the ringers, turn your score card in immediately following golf on Tuesday with your signatures, first and last name and date. The ringer box is located in the ladies’ lounge or often on the sign in table where your weekly game cards are deposited. You need two scores cards, one for ringers, and one for weekly game.
Thanks to Judy for such an efficient job with our ringers.
January 5th we will resume our organized play. Come join us, there is a place for everyone.
Northwest Florida Daily News news article setting out the 2009 LGA’s $600 donation to the Empty Stocking Fund. LGA member Jo Burger has collected for several years at the LGA Christmas party for our collective donation. Thanks to everyone that contributed.
